We aim to create a workplace where employees feel a sense of well-being

We regard the implementation of well-being management, which focuses on people, the source of our business, as the most important issue in our management. We aim to create a workplace where employees feel fulfilled and happy, physically, mentally, socially and economically, both at work and in their personal lives, by addressing the values that are important to them.

What is well-being?

Well-being is a combination of the words well (good) and being (state) and is a concept that describes a state of mental and physical “well-being”. The World Health Organization (WHO) Charter states that “health is not the absence of disease or infirmity, but the state of being all fulfilled physically, mentally, and socially” The definition of Well-being is “a state of being physically, mentally, and socially fulfilled.

Well-being is a holistic concept comprising multiple elements

Physical Health

Physical health is a fundamental element in Well-being. This refers to maintaining a healthy body and being free from diseases and health problems.
Proper nutrition, exercise, sleep, and acceptance of health care support physical health.
Physical health improves Well-being.

Mental Health

Mental health and spiritual well-being are very important as part of Well-being.
This includes stress management, emotional stability, self-acceptance, and peace of mind.
If mental health is good, wellness* is also observed.
*Wellness is “the attitude towards living better”.

Social Connection

Well-being also considers the influence of social relationships. Healthy relationships with friends and family, communication, and social support are elements that enhance well-being.
Connections with friends, family, and community add to wellness. Well-being is increased when social support is available.

Economic Stability

Financial stability and income have a significant impact on the quality of life and well-being. This includes financial satisfaction, occupational aptitude, and stability in livelihood.
Financial stability and resources for self-fulfillment affect well-being, therefore, it is important to feel financially fulfilled.

Environmental
Awareness

Sustainable environmental awareness is also related to well-being. Respect for the natural environment, reduction of environmental impact, and an environmentally conscious lifestyle contribute to well-being.
Environmental awareness and sustainable lifestyles take into account long-term Well-being. It is important to protect and maintain a healthy environment.

Well-being Management/Objectives of the initiative

Addressing Well-being has many benefits not only for individuals, but also for companies and organisations as a whole. Understanding why Well-being is important and how it contributes to corporate and individual goals is essential to developing an effective strategy.
In our view, the purpose and importance of Well-being initiatives are as follows:

Increase Productivity

Increased personal well-being leads to better physical condition and energy, which in turn improves work efficiency and productivity. As a company, overall performance improves when employees remain healthy and energetic, as the quality and speed of work improves.

Increase Employee Satisfaction and Loyalty

When employees feel a better balance between their work and personal lives through well-being initiatives, they are more satisfied with their workplace. This leads to better employee retention, talent retention, and loyalty to the organization.

Improve Psychological and Physical Health

When companies implement well-being programs, they reduce health risks for employees and save on health care costs in the long run. Providing psychological health support can also reduce stress and burnout.

Improvement of Corporate Culture

A culture that values well-being promotes a positive work environment and improves communication and cooperation among employees. This encourages creativity and innovation and improves the competitiveness of the company as a whole.

Realization of Social Responsibility

The promotion of well-being initiatives by companies is also valued as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Improving health and well-being is a key element in building a sustainable society.

Specific initiatives for Well-being

Facilitating Communication

Facilitating communication is expected to improve not only job performance but also well-being through resolving relationship problems. It is important for companies to build an environment in which employees can easily communicate with each other.
The Elder (senior staff) system was introduced to each business group to monitor the attendance and working conditions of group members and to provide advice and support in resolving problems and issues they are facing. As a result, a sense of unity is created between the Elders and the members, leading to increased customer satisfaction in operations.
We have also introduced Well-being tools to visualize the mental state of employees and improve their supervisors’ management and their own self-management, thereby achieving employee Well-being. As a result, we have been able to prevent employees from taking leave or leaving their jobs and improve the productivity of the organization.

Review of the Work Environment

Embracing diverse work styles leads to employee Well-being. It is important to review whether the current working environment is comfortable for employees and then take any necessary measures.
For this reason, we pay telecommuting allowances to employees who work mainly from home to improve their work environment. In addition, the Company conducts surveys of the home environment and provides support to make it more suitable for employees.

Support to Maintain and Improve Health

Supporting the health aspects of employees is also linked to well-being. Typical examples include physical support such as health checkups, vaccinations, and subsidized access to sports facilities.
For shift workers, medical examinations are conducted twice a year, and the results are checked in a timely manner to ensure that there are no physical health problems. In terms of physical health, we provide subsidies for the use of sports facilities, and actively promote physical exercise. We strive to realize total care that includes not only the mental aspect but also the physical aspect.

Promoting Well-Being Management

By prioritizing employee Well-being, we can change the culture of the entire organization and build a team of happy and healthy employees, who in turn can do good work. We, too, intend to actively practice “well-being management”.
