What is your current work?
I am currently working on a project for a major payment processing company, where I am mainly involved in back-end design, development and maintenance of applications using Java and MySQL.
When I joined the company, I was involved in a front-end development project, but I wanted to grow into an engineer who could do both front-end and back-end development, so when the project finished I asked the company if I could also do back-end development, and I was allowed to join the current project.
Back-end development is not a part that end-users see, so compared to front-end development, they are less aware of it, but it plays a fundamental role in the application, such as registering and changing data in the database and linking data with other applications, and is as important and rewarding as the front-end development.
What makes my job fulfilling
I find it most rewarding when the products I have created are released and used.
Development involves various prerequisites, such as the need for this kind of functionality, processing in this way in this case, and deadlines for work that must be completed by this time. It is necessary to take into account various factors such as readability, ease of future maintenance and modification work, burden on the database, processing speed reduction and memory consumption due to extra operations, and so on.
Even if you consider as much as possible, unexpected results may occur and it may not be a simple process, so it is very hard work, but the feelings become stronger for that reason, so no matter how hard it is, you are always glad you did it in the end.
What I want to be in the future?
I like system development itself, so in the future I would like to become an engineer who can do both front-end and back-end work, and who can support other members of the team and play a central role in projects.
