A.K.
What is your current work?
I am currently working as an infrastructure SE for a major internet banking system, operating and maintaining Windows/Unix-based operating systems, operation and management MW, etc. The operation and maintenance work requires a wide range of skills, from routine tasks such as resource, security and user management, to more flexible responses to system changes and failures. When I joined the company, I was assigned to the Global ICT Service Division, where I was engaged in monitoring and temporarily isolating failures as a maintenance operator of international NW lines, but when I requested the company to improve my IT technical skills, I was transferred to my current post, even though my knowledge and experience were not up to the required standard, I was able to step up as an IT technician. In terms of my working style, remote working was introduced through Corona Disaster, and I am able to spend more time at home, which means I have more time to spend with my two children. I am also able to include my family in company events and enjoy a good work-life balance.
What makes my job fulfilling
The major role of operations and maintenance is to maintain the customer services that are currently in operation so that they are not disrupted during the change work and failures that occur on a daily basis. Therefore, especially when major changes are made to the system, the first priority in planning is to ensure that the customer’s services are not affected. Sometimes work needs to be completed within a limited timeframe, and it takes months of preparation and verification, including handling unexpected events. In actual work, unexpected events rarely occur, but we still feel a sense of achievement and satisfaction when the change work we have spent so much time preparing for goes according to our expectations and we are able to report on the completion of the work.
What I want to be in the future?
I have worked in my current operation and maintenance role for five years, starting with no experience in infrastructure SE work, and have deepened my understanding of infrastructure SE work and systems. While carrying out my own duties, I have also been involved in the guidance and training of junior staff, and I feel that I have become able to look at the entire business from a broad perspective and make adjustments. In the future, I would like to make use of the skills I have developed so far and step up to a position where I can contribute to customer service while organising members as a leader in the field.
